Free For All Liverpool
What a great week it has been! Each day we worked with around 150 children, that's 600 throughout the week!. Thanks to a grant from Spring Harvest it meant that schools were able to take part from inner city areas who otherwise might not have been able to afford it. The staff at the Cathedral were very supportive and both Pam Tinsley and Sarah O'Donahughe (Education Officers) fitted in as one of us. As always the young people rose to the challenge and at the end of each day put on a memorable performance to parents and onlookers in the cathedral. No place we go to is ever the same and there is always something particular to a certain area. As we led the introduction on Wednesday to ask the children
about what they saw when they looked at the English and African puppets, surprisingly children didn't come out with the normal stereo types. They didn't see just a slave and master like many answer but one boy noted of the African puppet: "He must be an African chief because he is wearing expensive cloth!" in fact throughout the week the children showed a good knowledge of the slave trade and perhaps this is a credit to the way Liverpool has taken hold of it's past. Check out the Liverpool Cathedral picture gallery in the side bar and also the Liverpool Cathedral website may have some pictures on it too. We didn't get a chance to see the salvery exhibition the the museum but there is a link to their website. Thank you Liverpool for a great week.
