Free For All in Derby
We've made it to Anita's home town of Derby! What a great week we've had in local schools and the cathedral.
On the longest day of the year (21st June) we visited Holy Trinity School, Burton on Trent, who, along with pupils from Walter Evans School went on to perform in the Cathedral on Friday 22nd June. We also visited St James' School where we did a performance to the rest of the school and parents.
We made one or two changes to the final performance including a
powerful start to the show where the cast sing, "Mbe, Mbe, apiri bu ihe
ojo" to the English Captain, proclaiming in Igbo (a Nigerian dialect)
that he is "greedy, greedy, greed is a very bad thing!"
The Captain returns at the end of the play to the same chant - showing how some have been unrepentant of their part in the Slave Trade and that his own greed has become his demise.
Two of the normal cast were not with us this week, as both Ade and Zoe were performing at Glastonbury Festival! I hope they took some good wellies!
